An ADU for the Ages

Set aside anything you may have heard about ADUs (Accessory Dwelling Units) being bland or poorly made. This former garage on a corner lot in Oakland is all the proof you need that ADUs can have as much personality and quality craftsmanship as the homes whose lots they share (and can cost just as much)! Designed by the client’s college friends, this totally reinvented and repurposed structure—built with Cor-Ten steel—features a bedroom, full bath, laundry room, and airy kitchen. It’s a living space for all ages, from visiting in-laws to kids returning from college to renters saving for their first home.
