The Beauty Within: Shop Series Part 6

A look inside your custom cabinets.

When discussing custom cabinets, our minds naturally gravitate towards their “curb appeal”—the stunning exteriors and elegant finishes that first capture our eye. There’s an often-overlooked aspect of custom cabinetry, however, that truly defines their essence: the interior (or, as we like to call them, “the guts”). With a multitude of aesthetic and functional interior options now available—and more coming down the pike seemingly every day—it’s in these interior spaces where the “custom” in “custom cabinets” truly shines. Let’s dive into the world of custom cabinet interiors and discover how they can elevate all your living spaces.

Organization made to order.

The kitchen is not just the heart of our home; it’s often the place where we encounter our most complex organizational storage needs. From a plethora of appliances to stacks of dishware, pots, pans, and glasses, everything in our kitchen needs a designated place that keeps us sane and caters to our unique way of using the space. The beauty of custom cabinets lies in their ability to merge constantly evolving off-the-shelf innovations with one-of-a-kind custom offerings to create a setting perfectly tailored to your needs.

With the world of organizational options constantly expanding, it’s easy to go down a rabbit hole when deciding which ones are right for you. Clever appliance storage spaces can be paired with appliance lifts to make clunky mixers and blenders disappear when not in use but readily accessible when needed. Traditional corner cabinets, notorious for being tough to access, are transformed with the installation of swinging shelves and trays that greet you as you open the door.

But it’s not all about functionality. Custom cabinets provide the freedom to add an artistic touch expressing your style. We’re currently crafting some stunning walnut drawers for a client that resemble milk crates arranged in a grid, creating a unique storage solution that’s as beautiful as it is practical. It’s all about your taste and lifestyle. Do you want your appliances to blend seamlessly or make a statement? Do you want super easy access to that bulky Vitamix so you can make your green smoothie every morning? The key is to consider the insides of your cabinets as meticulously as their outsides for a truly personalized solution.

Beyond the kitchen.

Of course, as we’ve discussed in earlier posts, the kitchen is just one room in the house where custom cabinets can make their mark. In fact, most of our custom cabinet kitchen jobs involve cabinets built for other rooms in the house, everything from walk-in closets to home theaters to bathrooms. Regardless of a cabinet’s location, the goal remains the same: marrying form and function to create storage that caters to our clients’ unique needs and tastes.

Consider the pantry side pullout one homeowner requested to store his billiard cues. Or the small bedroom-turned-walk-in closet we recently outfitted with glass countertops, allowing the owner to view the contents of the top drawers without pulling them out. A third client, a history buff, recently turned to us to create museum-style shelving displays that allow him to safely store and showcase his favorite artifacts for his friends and family.

Accessories and solutions for these particular requests are as abundant as they are clever. One of our favorite things to do is to combine these innovations with your specific one-off needs to create storage that aligns perfectly with your lifestyle.

More than millwork.

As more technology gets introduced into the home with each new “big thing,” custom cabinets today are seldom just about extraordinary millwork. They now serve as the perfect canvas to seamlessly integrate increasingly intricate smart home technologies, electronics, and lighting into your living space.

We discreetly tuck away power docks and modules into drawers, cleverly hide cables with grommets, and deploy recess-mounted lighting to transform ordinary shelves into captivating displays for cherished photos, art, and keepsakes. Custom cabinets continue to evolve with the times, adapting to the ever-changing landscape of modern living.

Trust your gut(s).

When envisioning your dream custom cabinets, remember that their beauty and function go more than finish-deep. Custom cabinets allow you to create a showpiece for any room in your home or business, but it’s what’s inside each cabinet that truly makes the final product your own.
