Lead Carpenter

 

 

 

OVERVIEW

As an MN Builders Lead Carpenter, you will be responsible for executing the construction of residential remodel projects from mobilization through punch list. You will play an important role in the building and financial success of construction projects ranging in value from $500,000 to $15,000,000. Your job will include, but will certainly not be limited to, the following duties:

  • JOB SITE SUPERVISION

    • Lead 1-5 carpenters in completion of general construction, concrete, rough framing, and finish carpentry tasks 

    • Proactive client, engineer and architect contact with minimal supervision from the Project Manager. 

    • Attend and participate in site meetings with the project manager and clients

    • Notify the team of differing site conditions or other unforeseen conditions that require work outside of the scope 

    • Attentive to budget as it relates to labor hours 

    • Schedule tracking and understanding of the critical path

    • Ability to plan three weeks ahead in terms of scheduling subcontractors, verifying design execution, and planning the sequence of work

    • Monitor the daily schedule and follow up with current & upcoming subcontractors

    • Advanced materials ordering and estimating

    • Inspection scheduling with the city

    • Advanced understanding and interacting with other trades

    • Coordinate with scheduler crew allocation & long-term needs

    • Coordinate trash pickups
       

  • CONSTRUCTION EXPERIENCE/SKILL

    • Mastery of general job site, ladder & scaffolding safety 

    • Demonstrated ability to work safely and lead safe practices at the site

    • Understand proper and consistent use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

    • Competent at reading and comprehending plans 

      • Read all types of plans, including shop drawings for ironwork, cabinets and windows

      • Redline plans to communicate with Project Manager and Design Team 

      • Draw up new details to ensure work is executed as envisioned (though not necessarily drawn) by the designer in terms of key alignments, waterproofing, etc. 

    • Knowledge of operating any and all tools required for the project

    • Advanced layout: concrete, framing, cabinet installation and finish carpentry

    • Concrete forming, including whole house foundations and advanced concrete finishing skills

    • All framing, including complex roofs and stair building

    • All interior and exterior woodwork, including curved work

    • Possession of complete toolkit for work required

    • Truck with lumber rack
       

  • QUALITY ASSURANCE & CONTROL

    • Job site set up and organization

    • Order short lead materials such as lumber and hardware

    • Conduct weekly safety meetings

    • Log daily reports

    • Teach and guide the entire crew in the standards of MN work quality and jobsite safety

    • Frequently walk the jobsite to identify 

    • Implement the Quality Plan by measurements, inspections and by monitoring processes of MN Crew and Subcontractors
       

Put another way, you will work closely with the project manager and site superintendent to properly and efficiently execute the many facets of residential remodels and light commercial TI projects in the San Francisco Bay Area. This position reports directly to the assigned Superintendent and/or the Construction Operations Manager.

Additional Minimum Requirements

  • 6-10 years of work experience within the construction industry.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple subcontractors and carpenters in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment.

  • Current CPR and First Aid certificate

  • Excellent organization and communication skills.

  • Advanced communication in spoken and written English

  • Strong interpersonal skills and a strong work ethic

  • Strong knowledge of Fieldwire

Physical Demands

As a Lead Carpenter at MN Builders, you’ll be on the move a lot, and here are some of the physical tasks you must be able to perform to successfully do your job.   • Frequently stand or kneel for prolonged periods over the course of an 8-hour day

  • Frequently walk around job sites with uneven terrain where use of safety glasses and hardhats is mandatory

  • Frequently operate power tools, hand tools and other machinery 

  • Frequently communicate and exchange accurate information

  • Frequently walk, bend, stoop, use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms

  • Regularly ascend and descend ladders and scaffolding

  • Perform vision-oriented tasks requiring close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 100 lbs.

  • Loud machinery and construction noise

  • Shared workspaces and frequent interactions with other team members

  • Frequent exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals

  • Moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or unpleasant odors while working on project sites

  • Occasional worksite exposure to chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, or birth defects or other reproductive harm

 

Compensation and Benefits

  • This is a full-time, hourly position, pay based on experience

  • After 60 days of successful employment, you are entitled to participate in the following benefits:
